We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Editor in Chief to lead Clinical & Translational Metabolism and shape the journal’s next phase of growth. The Editor in Chief will work closely with the Associate Editors and the Publisher to maintain scientific excellence, accelerate strategic development, and strengthen the journal’s position within the global metabolism research community. 

Journal Background 

Clinical & Translational Metabolism serves as an international forum for research spanning physiological metabolism and nutrient balance; hormonal and endocrine regulation; mitochondrial biology; cardiovascular and musculoskeletal metabolic processes; cancer metabolism; and metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. 

Education and Experience 

Academic Credentials 

PhD, MD, or an equivalent degree in a discipline relevant to metabolism (e.g. endocrinology, cardiovascular science, oncology, mitochondrial biology, nutrition, musculoskeletal health, metabolic diseases, or related clinical or translational fields). 

Professional Experience 

Significant research, clinical, and/or teaching experience in metabolism or translational metabolic science. Broad understanding of emerging trends, methodologies, and key debates across biochemical, physiological, whole organism, and clinical domains, including areas such as diabetes, obesity, cancer metabolism, mitochondrial diseases, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal health, and endocrine disorders. 

Publication Record 

A strong track record of high quality publications in reputable metabolism related journals or other scholarly outlets. 

Editorial Experience 

Previous experience as an editor, associate editor, or reviewer for peer reviewed scientific journals. 

Knowledge and Skills 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to collaborate effectively with authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and publishing staff. Strong leadership capabilities, including the ability to motivate and inspire others and to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Sound understanding of peer review processes, publication ethics, and research integrity. Ability to assess the quality, methodological rigor, and translational relevance of manuscripts. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic publishing.

Role Expectations 

  • Act as an ambassador for Clinical & Translational Metabolism and represent the journal within the metabolism research community, including networking at conferences and encouraging submissions. 
  • Use best efforts to support a healthy, sustainable, and growing manuscript pipeline, enabling the journal to further develop its potential as a hub for clinical and translational metabolic research. 
  • Uphold timely and rigorous peerreview practices to ensure excellent author service and scientifically robust published content aligned with the journal’s aims and scope. 
  • Leverage professional networks to attract high quality content on timely topics, including reviews and other commissioned article types. 
  • Recruit editors, editorial board members, and guest editors, and foster strong engagement within the editorial board. 
  • Support diversity and inclusion initiatives to help ensure the journal and its editorial board are reflective of the global research community it serves. 
  • Participate in regular meetings with the Publisher, as well as an annual Editorial Board meeting, to discuss journal development and set and achieve strategic goals. 
  • Adhere to standards of editorial best practice, as defined in the Publisher’s Code of Conduct for Editors in Chief, based on guidelines issued by organizations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
