About Allan Sandes
I am a geoscientist and Associate Professor at the Department of Geography and the Graduate Program in Geography at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, Brazil), and a researcher at the Marine Geology Laboratory (LAGEMAR) of the Federal Fluminense University (UFF). My research focuses on paleoclimatology, Quaternary climate variability, abrupt climate change, and the interactions between oceanic and continental systems, particularly in tropical South America and Antarctica.
I am especially interested in reconstructing past climate changes from marine sediment archives and understanding the mechanisms linking high-latitude climate dynamics to tropical hydroclimate variability.
Beyond research, I am passionate about science communication, environmental education, and public engagement. I coordinate the Ilha de Cientistas initiative, which connects universities, public schools, and local communities through citizen science and environmental monitoring projects.
