About Lanlan Shen

I am a Professor with over two decades of experience in epigenetics research. My work integrates basic and translational approaches to uncover epigenetic mechanisms underlying development, aging, and intestinal diseases, with strong relevance to diet and the gut microbiome.

My lab was the first to demonstrate a causal role for aberrant promoter DNA methylation in tumorigenesis in vivo using mouse models. We also identified critical developmental epigenetic pathways that mediate intestinal host-microbiome interactions, establishing a mechanistic link between early-life microbial exposure and long-term intestinal health.

My expertise includes epigenetics and epigenomics, genetic and epigenetically engineered mouse models, cancer biology, intestinal disease, and host-gut microbiome interactions.
