About Monique Patzner

I am interested in the microbial iron cycle in thawing permafrost peatlands and its impact on greenhouse gas emissions. Microbial production of greenhouse gases depends on carbon mobility and bioavailability. In soils, carbon compounds strongly bind to surfaces of rusty iron oxides. Thus, the microbial formation and dissolution of these Fe minerals in thawing permafrost environments is an important process controlling carbon release.
