About Stuart Licht
Saving the World is a Bitch®
I’m passionate about combating climate change, and my latest decarbonization journey began in 2010 when I developed the STEP Carbon Capture process—a bold vision to bind global industrial CO2 emissions within ten years, using less than an area equivalent to less than 5% of the Sahara's area. Realizing this vision requires a commitment akin to the Manhattan Project.
With over 50 years of experience in carbon capture, renewable energy, fundamental physical chemistry, and battery innovations, I’ve published more than 700 papers and patents. I’m currently focused on scaling up carbon capture through the transformation of CO2 into graphene nanocarbons, including carbon nanotubes, the strongest known material.
At 70, I’m still driven to guide governments and corporations away from the brink of an existential crisis. I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse cultures worldwide, and when I’m not advocating for change, I enjoy life with my family and our two delightful Maine Coon cats in the yard, Thor and Lowkey. Previously, I was a National Science Foundation Program Director and Chaired a Chemistry Department.
As Professor Emeritus at GWU and founder of C2CNT LLC and its subsidiaries, I lead the charge in decarbonization with innovations like the C2CNT® process and the Diamonds from the Sky® technology. My work also includes pioneering renewable energy solutions, such as molten air and new battery chemistries, and advancing solar cells and solar fuels production.
From extending aqueous pH scales to developing cutting-edge electrochemical sensors, my research continually seeks to redefine what’s possible in our fight against climate change.
Join me on this journey to create a sustainable future!
