Uncovering New Mechanisms of Virus–Host Interactions

My research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying virus–host interactions, viral pathogenesis, and immune evasion, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel targets for antiviral intervention.

Our recent work has identified ADAM17 as a broad-acting HIV-1 restriction factor that inhibits viral envelope maturation and infectivity. We demonstrated how HIV-1 Nef counteracts this host defense, revealing a previously unrecognized mechanism by which HIV-1 overcomes intrinsic antiviral restriction. This research advances our understanding of the molecular interplay between viral accessory proteins and host cellular defenses.

Another major focus of my research is coronavirus entry and the role of host factors, particularly NPC1, in regulating viral infection. We also investigate cellular autophagy pathways and their roles in host defense against enveloped viruses, including Ebola virus.

Across these research areas, my laboratory seeks to uncover fundamental principles of viral entry, replication, host restriction, and immune evasion, while identifying opportunities for developing broad-spectrum antiviral strategies.

I welcome opportunities to connect and collaborate with researchers interested in virology, virus–host interactions, intrinsic antiviral immunity, viral entry and membrane fusion, host restriction factors, autophagy, and antiviral drug discovery. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific exchange, I hope to contribute to a deeper understanding of viral diseases and the development of innovative approaches to combat them.
