About Yong-Sun Bahn
I am Underwood Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, where my laboratory studies the biology and pathogenesis of human fungal pathogens, primarily Cryptococcus neoformans and Candidozyma (Candida) auris.
My main interest is in how fungal signaling networks — including the cAMP/PKA, MAPK, calcineurin, and unfolded protein response pathways — govern stress adaptation, virulence factor production, sexual differentiation, and antifungal drug resistance. To address this systematically, my group has built genome-scale functional genomics resources for the transcription factors, kinases, phosphatases, and WD40 proteins of C. neoformans, and we use these networks to identify and validate new antifungal drug targets.
I have been serving as Editor-in-Chief or Editors for multiple international journals, such as mBio, Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, Fungal Genetics and Biology, and others. I am always glad to connect with colleagues working on fungal pathogens, host–pathogen interactions, and antifungal therapeutics.
