Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Feed supplements to improve health and performance in animals

The use of feed supplements is a rapidly advancing area in animal nutrition, driven by innovations in supplement formulations, precision feeding technologies, and growing demands for higher efficiency and welfare standards in animal production systems. From ruminants and poultry to swine and aquaculture species, targeted supplementation plays a key role in improving growth rates, reproductive performance, immune function, and overall feed conversion efficiency. These advances contribute directly to SDG-2 Zero hunger by promoting sustainable livestock systems and improving food security through enhanced animal productivity.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 27th May 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"This Collection on Feed supplements to improve health and performance in animals addresses the urgent need for sustainable strategies to enhance productivity, welfare, and disease resistance while reducing antibiotic reliance. Advancing nutritional innovations is vital for global food security and environmental sustainability. Bringing together multidisciplinary research on natural additives, functional ingredients, and precision feeding, this collection aims to catalyze scientific collaboration and practical application. It offers researchers a high-visibility platform to showcase impactful work, share novel insights, and contribute to the development of effective, evidence-based feed solutions for improving animal health and performance worldwide."

- Dr. Hector Arguello-Rodriguez, Guest Editor
