Scientific Reports is an open-access multidisciplinary Nature Portfolio journal that publishes original research from across all areas of the natural sciences, psychology, medicine, and engineering.  The journal started launching Collections in 2017, which are a compilation of published articles related to a topic area of interest for readers, and this led to a dedicated Collections Management & Acquisition (CMA) team, formed in 2022, regularly launching and publishing exciting Collections related to a multitude of research areas.

In 2015, all United Nations Member States adopted The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which identifies 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and “provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for all”. These goals were implemented in the Springer Nature’s SDG Programme, which is committed to opening up and widely sharing research.

As the best way we can contribute to these goals is through the articles and Collections we publish and share, the CMA team aims to increase the number of Collections launched associated with an SDG in hopes of playing a small part in such a significant cause.

2025 Collections

In honour of the SDG Action & Awareness Week 2025, we wanted to highlight some of our 2025 Collection launches from Scientific Reports that are associated with an SDG.

Scientific Reports Collections launched in 2025 so far and their associated SDGs

We’re excited to highlight that we have launched 19 Collections with an SDG within the first two months of 2025, covering SDG2: Zero hunger, SDG3: Good health and well-being, SDG6: Clean water and sanitation, SDG7: Affordable and clean energy, SDG9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure, SDG12: Responsible consumption and production, SDG13: Climate action, and SDG14 Life below water, with a few Collections associated with more than one SDG.

Open Collections

We currently have over 90 SDG-associated open Collections, including 75 Collections launched in 2024, covering 13 of the 17 goals and with more than 30 Collections associated with SDG3: Good health and well-being.

If you’d like to get involved and contribute to these exciting Collections, feel free to get in touch or check out the Scientific Reports 'Calls for Papers' page (you can filter by subject area), we'd love to hear from you!

Also, if you’re interested, check out a few of our SDG-associated published Collections: Social behaviour and interaction, Ambient air pollution and noncommunicable diseases, Urban heat island effect, and Sustainable fashion.
