Hello everyone,

I am Robert Matos, Associate Professor of Physics at the Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP), Brazil, and coordinator of the Amazonian Laboratory for Materials Research (LAPMat).

My research is centered on materials science and nanotechnology, with particular interest in green synthesis, functional oxides, photocatalysis, biomaterials and sustainable materials inspired by Amazonian biodiversity. A major goal of my work is to understand how synthesis conditions, crystal structure, defects, surfaces and interfaces determine the physicochemical and functional properties of materials.

Advanced characterization plays an important role in this research. My work involves techniques including X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement, Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected-area electron diffraction (SAED), electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) and synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XANES/EXAFS).

I am particularly interested in connecting these characterization approaches with applications in photocatalysis, environmental remediation, catalysis, energy-related materials and biomaterials, while exploring how the remarkable biodiversity of the Amazon can contribute to more sustainable materials-processing strategies.

As a researcher, educator and member of the Scientific Reports Editorial Board, I am also interested in scientific publishing, peer review and the exchange of ideas across disciplines.

I am very pleased to join the Springer Nature Research Communities and look forward to learning from colleagues, sharing research perspectives and discussing emerging developments in materials science and related fields.
