Dr. @Satya Prakash Pati joined the Discover Applied Sciences Editorial Board in 2018. He has always been keen to contribute towards the Journal's growth and development. He expressed his interest to increase his engagement with the journal and move to the role of a Section editor when we announced the position.

We had a brief discussion about the role and its responsibilities, and he graciously accepted to be the Section editor of the journal’s section Physics/Materials Science.

Here's a short interview with our new Section Editor:

What is your current research focused on?

My current research focuses on experimental condensed matter physics with a strong emphasis on ion transport in solid-state systems for next-generation, low-power electronic devices. I investigate voltage-controlled magnetic and electronic phenomena, such as magnetic anisotropy, exchange bias, spin waves, and proton intercalation, to develop energy-efficient information processing technologies. My work also explores magnetoelectronic effects, including magnetoelectric switching and interface exchange coupling in complex magnetic multilayers. Additionally, I study spin-orbit coupling, Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interactions, and antiferromagnetic spintronics, aiming to control magnetic phase transitions at the nanoscale. A key focus is on magnetization dynamics, including spin-wave generation, spin-Hall, and spin-Seebeck effects, for innovative spintronic applications.

What are the most interesting emerging topics or new technologies/new developments in your field of research?

Emerging topics in my field include protonic neuromorphic devices that mimic biological synapses for ultra-low-power AI and healthcare applications. Voltage-controlled spintronic and magnetoelectric devices are enabling next-generation memory and logic with minimal energy dissipation. Advances in complex oxide heterostructures offer precise control of magnetic phase transitions and spin-wave dynamics. Spin caloritronics—utilizing spin-Seebeck and inverse spin Hall effects—shows promise for energy harvesting and spin-based logic. Together, these developments are driving brain-inspired and sustainable electronic technologies.

Tell us about your role as an Editorial Board Member (EBM) on the journal Discover Applied Sciences and your vision as a Section Editor, and what made you want to take up this role!

As an Editorial Board Member (EBM) of Discover Applied Sciences, I actively contribute to maintaining the journal’s high scientific standards by guiding peer review, evaluating manuscripts, and identifying emerging research directions. As a Section Editor, my vision is to attract and promote high-quality manuscripts in the areas of condensed matter physics, spintronics, and energy-efficient electronic devices while broadening the journal’s global readership. I am committed to enhancing the journal’s visibility by engaging with international research communities, encouraging impactful submissions, and highlighting breakthrough work that addresses societal and technological challenges. I took up this role out of a strong passion for advancing scholarly communication, mentoring young researchers, and building a dynamic platform that serves as a trusted source of cutting-edge applied sciences.

Do you have any advice for new members of the board?

My advice for new members of the board is to stay deeply engaged with the latest research trends and actively contribute to enhancing the journal’s quality and reach. It is important to promote fair, constructive, and timely peer review while encouraging submissions of impactful and innovative research. I would also suggest leveraging your professional network to attract high-quality manuscripts and expand the journal’s readership. Above all, maintain a collaborative spirit, share your expertise generously, and strive to uphold the journal’s vision of becoming a global platform for cutting-edge science.

What do you enjoy most or look forward to about your work on the journal?

What I enjoy most about my work on the journal is the opportunity to engage with groundbreaking research and contribute to shaping the future direction of applied sciences. I particularly value the process of curating high-quality manuscripts, which allows me to learn about emerging technologies while ensuring the journal remains a trusted platform for innovative ideas. I also look forward to collaborating with a global network of researchers and editors, promoting impactful studies, and enhancing the journal’s visibility among a wider readership.

Lovely to have you onboard in this new role, Dr. @Satya Prakash Pati, and I am sure your contribution will help the journal reach new heights!

Engineering: Energy Management System

Power system energy management is performed at different levels with different aims. The most important goals of optimal energy management of the power systems are cost reduction, reduce emissions, improve reliability and power quality indexes, increase profitability, etc. Innovative methods can be used to provide an energy management plan, or energy management can be defined as an optimization problem and optimization algorithms can be used to solve it. Uncertainties are also very important issues in power system operation programs, especially in the lower levels of the power system (microgrids). The electric vehicle parking lots or aggregators can also be used in the microgrids to store energy, in which case the issue of energy management takes on a new face. Therefore, to provide a good energy management program for the power system, one must have a detailed knowledge of its components and the technical constraints of the power system. Therefore, to provide a good energy management program, a comprehensive model of the power system with detailed data should be provided.
