About ANIL KUMAR GUPTA
I am a senior Professor at Department of Geology and Geophysics, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India. My main research interests include working on paleo stuff using proxy records of foraminifera from the Indian Ocean, fresh water lake sediments and stable isotope ratios in speleothems from India. Main focus of my research is to comprehend short-term shifts in the Indian monsoon, changes in the Benguela Current, in the Leeuwin Current and evolution of the West Pacific Warm Pool during the Neogene.

The Benguela Upwelling System (BUS) has driven the expansion of the Namibian desert since the late Miocene. The BUS carries cold and nutrient-rich waters that sustain booming ecosystems, and influence the hinterland climate as well as habitability of southern African landmass.
