About David Gisselsson

As professor of molecular pathology I currently serve as vice dean for international affairs and security at the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University.

In Sweden, all children diagnosed with cancer are offered whole genome sequencing to advise clinical decisions. As co-chair of the Genomic Medicine Sweden Childhood Cancer Working Group I serve as a national coordinator for this process. From 2024 I am Sweden’s representative at the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer and a Senior Expert at the Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation.

The increasingly volatile geopolitical situation has also led me to work more and more on research security and the strategic implications of biotechnology. Starting 2024, I lead a national research project on scenarios for dual use of genetic technology in war and grey zone conflict.  I represent my university in the Swedish national campus for comprehensive defence.

To provide a better future for our children, we must not only improve the health of young people but also preserve for them the hard-won freedoms of democracy
