About Diana Vieira
I am an Environmental Engineer with a strong focus on soil health risks, particularly in fire-affected landscapes. My work has centered on the monitoring of burned areas and the key processes driving post-fire soil dynamics, with the aim of improving models and supporting landscape recovery under increasing fire pressure. Throughout my research career, I have served as Principal Investigator of the FEMME project, supervised Ph.D., postdoctoral, and MSc researchers, contributed to both national and EU-funded projects, and organized several international scientific events.
Currently, I work at the EU Soil Observatory (JRC – European Commission), where I focus on large-scale soil modelling, land degradation, healthy soils, and the assessment and remediation of soil pollution across Europe. I have actively contributed to the development of the recently adopted Directive for Soil Monitoring and Resilience. I am also honored to serve as a Lead Author for the upcoming IPCC Assessment Report (AR7), contributing to the global scientific understanding of climate change and its interactions with land systems.
Beyond research, I am committed to knowledge transfer and believe that art and technology must go hand in hand to engage diverse audiences. I am a fervent advocate for equity and diversity, both within science and beyond.
