About Roy Barkan

I am a PhD candidate in the Marine Omics group at James Cook University, studying the genetic response to heat stress in abalone. My research uses molecular biology and bioinformatics, including genome assembly, gene expression analysis, comparative genomics, microbiome profiling, and marine organism cultivation (algae, fish, and invertebrates). I also have experience in IMTA systems, water quality monitoring, and a range of molecular techniques.

Passionate about marine life, ocean conservation, and the application of genomics, I aim to share knowledge that strengthens the resilience of marine ecosystems in a changing climate.
