About Xing Chen
My research primarily focuses on developing theoretical methodologies for nanoscale external field–matter interactions and their applications in energy storage and conversion. Using multiscale approaches, we investigate interfacial response mechanisms in depth. Based on a fundamental understanding of these interaction mechanisms, the functional materials are designed to achieve efficient energy storage and conversion.

Scientists have long suspected that water plays an important role in how metals oxidize and corrode. Yet one surprisingly basic question has remained difficult to answer at the atomic scale: what exactly is water doing during oxidation?
