What is this collection about?  

Disorders of mental health are one of the leading causes of health loss globally with broad societal consequences. Identifying novel pathways to improve the diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders remains of high importance. Computational Psychiatry enables researchers to characterize neurocomputational mechanisms and computational phenotypes underlying psychiatric symptoms, identify biomarkers, and develop predictive models of diagnosis, conversion risk, and treatment response.

With this cross-journal Collection, the Editors at Nature CommunicationsNature Human BehaviorNature Mental HealthCommunications Psychology, and Scientific Reports invite submissions on the topic of Computational Psychiatry. This Collection aims to bring together research that leverages computational methods to advance our understanding of psychiatric symptoms in humans.

Each participating journal will apply its standard editorial criteria, including scope, advance and article types, to the submissions received within the Collection. Authors can choose which journal to submit to based on their own preference. The targeted journal will evaluate the submission for suitability for peer-review at the journal and, where submissions are out of scope but likely suitable for another participating journal, express a recommendation to the authors. If you are interested in contributing a review or opinion piece, please email the Editors to discuss suitability first.

Why is this collection important?  

As the global burden of psychiatric disorders continues to grow, there is an increasing need for innovative approaches that can improve diagnosis, predict treatment response, and deepen our understanding of disease mechanisms. Computational methods are helping to address these challenges by uncovering patterns in complex data and enabling more precise, personalized approaches to mental healthcare.

This Collection aims to showcase advances that can help shape the future of psychiatric research and care. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by advancing research that promotes better mental health outcomes worldwide.
