Nature Nano Talks – Exploring bio-nano interactions

In our March 2021 issue we published two perspective and two reviews, each dealing with different issues relating to the interaction between biological tissues and nanomaterials. We have decided to talk to some of the authors of these articles so that they could summarise their thoughts in a way that could be simply explained to a wide audience. These short conversations will be broadcasted in our Nature Nano Talks event on 24th March
Robert Parton and co-authors have reviewed the mechanisms of nanoparticle endocytosis, which is an essential issue to explore in order to optimize nanomaterials based therapeutics but that has led to a number of misconceptions in the past, and the available tools to study them.
Kenneth Dawson and Yan Yan have explored what we have learnt about the biological identity at the nanoscale and how this is going to lead to better biological control and improved nanotherapeutics. Link
Markita Landry and co-authors have provided a perspective on the use of nanoparticle to improve the genetic engineering of plants via CRISPR-cas, as well as highlighting potential challenges Link
Finally, Timothy Duncan and Tianxi Yang have reviewed the obstacles that are preventing the use of nanosensors in food. While some of these obstacles are technological in nature, mostly they are regulatory, political and economical in origin Link
