Collection Overview

Scientific Reports has launched a Guest-Edited Collection on Climate change in sustainable agriculture and food production

As global temperatures continue to rise and extreme weather events become more frequent, the urgent need for effective and transformative agricultural solutions has become increasingly apparent. Strengthening resilience, increasing productivity, and keeping sustainability in food systems are essential for adapting to climate change. Maintaining agricultural productivity while optimizing resource efficiency and minimizing environmental impact will be crucial for food security in the future.

This will be a Collection of original research papers  and will be open for submissions from all authors – on the condition that the manuscripts fall within the scope of the Collection and of Scientific Reports more generally. We are welcoming submissions until 24th March 2026.

Why is this Collection important?

"Climate is changing mostly due to anthropogenic activities. There is feedback looped between agriculture and climate change i.e. agriculture affect and affected by climate change. This trend needs to be reversed by implementing highly productive, profitable but reducing climate affecting gaseous emissions for sustainable agriculture and food production.

This special issue brings the collection of cutting-edge research focusing sustainable food production in a bundle. Publishing in a special issue brings wider dissemination of research findings, boost visibility of your work and increase professional connections."

Dr. Khagendra Raj Baral, Guest Editor

"This collection addresses one of the most pressing global challenges: ensuring food security in a changing climate. Its potential impact is significant: advancing solutions that improve yields while maintaining and strengthening soil health and the ecosystem services it supports, from nutrient cycling to water regulation. By protecting these critical services, we can build resilient, productive, and sustainable food systems. This special collection offers a valuable opportunity to advance knowledge, spark interdisciplinary collaboration, and inspire innovative approaches to climate adaptation and agricultural sustainability worldwide."

- Dr. Melanie Brunn, Guest Editor

"Climate change is reshaping how we grow, distribute, and consume food, making sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems more critical than ever. This collection highlights innovative approaches that integrate climate-smart practices, advanced technologies, and policy frameworks to ensure food security while safeguarding ecosystems. I am particularly excited because it brings together cross-disciplinary insights that can inspire both science and practice. The impact could be transformative, guiding farmers, researchers, and policymakers toward scalable solutions. Researchers should submit here to showcase work that not only advances knowledge but also directly contributes to building climate-resilient and sustainable agri-food systems."

- Dr. Prakash Kumar Jha, Guest Editor

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by Guest Editors, who are experts in their fields, and In-House Editors and are supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.
