What is this collection about?

Cancer neuroscience is an emerging and rapidly advancing field that unites neurobiology and oncology to broaden our understanding of cancer and its interaction with the nervous system. The intricate local and systemic communication between the nervous system and cancer cells can influence tumour growth, invasion, remodelling of the tumour microenvironment, immune dynamics, and responses to therapy. Moreover, cancer cells can activate neural programmes and co-opt central and peripheral circuits to support their own growth.

With this collection, Nature CommunicationsNatureNature CancerNature NeuroscienceNature Progress OncologyNature Progress Brain Health and Communications Biology invite submissions that aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying bidirectional cancer–nervous system interactions and their influence on the tumour microenvironment, as well as pre-clinical and clinical studies exploring potential therapeutic strategies to target neural–cancer interactions.

Why submit to a collection?

Collections like this one help promote high-quality science. They are led by In-House Editors who are experts in their fields and supported by a dedicated team of Commissioning Editors and Managing Editors at Springer Nature. Collection manuscripts typically see higher citations, downloads, and Altmetric scores, and provide a one-stop-shop on a cutting-edge topic of interest.

Who is involved?

Nature Communications is edited by in-house professional editors.
