About Eshwar Mahenthiralingam
I am interested pathogenesis and ecology of bacterial opportunistic pathogens, ranging from Pseudomonas aeruginosa to mycobacteria, with a major focus on Burkholderia bacteria. I have used molecular microbiology strategies to understand how these bacteria cause diseases or carry out beneficial interactions. My current research is focussed on: (i) understanding and diagnosing microbial lung infections in people with cystic fibrosis, and (ii) exploiting the ability of Burkholderia bacteria to produce novel antibiotics and mediate environmentally beneficial interactions.
