About Alessandro Galli

I am a macro ecologist and sustainability scientist, with an interest in anthropology and human behaviour. My research goal is to contribute to and support evidence based decision-making processes to help address the global challenge of living well within the limits of our planet and trigger a much needed societal transition towards sustainability.

My work lies at the intersection between science, society and policy, and deals with the human dependence on natural resources and ecosystem services. Over the past 12 years, I have worked across the Mediterranean region, on issues related to food systems sustainability, tourism sustainability, biodiversity conservation, marine pollution and education for sustainability

Nature Food

Living beyond sustainable levels: The EU-27 demands from nature exceed the region’s biocapacity and are primarily driven by food consumption

The way food is provided to and consumed by Europeans represents the largest share (≈ 30%) of their Ecological Footprint. Designing, implementing and enforcing policies across each stage of the food supply chain is needed, to advance towards the EU Green Deal and Farm to Fork strategy.
