About Elena De Petrillo
I am a PhD Candidate at the Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructure Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin. My research focuses on the water-food nexus, currently from two main perspectives:
(i) improving the applicability of virtual water trade assessment as a tool for sustainable and equitable international water management, framing the transformative changes needed by the public and private sectors;
(ii) better understanding land-water interactions and coupling different types of global water teleconnections to assess to resilience of ecological and social systems related to food production.
I have always been interested in science and nature, particularly in water. But my interests also extend to history and geopolitics, so I have found in the water-food nexus and the weaving of virtual water trade a deep interest, at the intersection of (eco)hydrology, geopolitics and social rights.
