About Elisa Giacomelli

I am a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Lorenz Studer Lab, at MSKCC, New York City. My research aims to develop and apply multicellular human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived disease models to study cellular cross-talk and disease mechanisms underlying ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

My PhD studies in Prof. Christine Mummery Lab focused on establishing an in vitro, three-dimensional (3D) microtissue model of the heart through co-culture of cardiovascular derivatives of hPSCs. My goal was to use such system to model some of the more complex, inherited cardiovascular disorders in vitro.

I am a science communicator enthusiast, member of the postdoctoral association career development committee at MSKCC, member of the ALS young professional groups (ALS Association, NYC) and 500 Women Scientists, NYC.
