Behind the Paper
The real stories behind the latest research papers, from conception to publication, the highs and the lows
Will opacities be the next accuracy bottleneck in exoplanet retrieval?
The limits of our knowledge on light–matter interactions will affect the exploration of exoplanetary atmospheres. Accounting for these limits will prevent biased claims. Guided improvements will ensure maximum return on investment from the next-generation observatories, including the JWST.
Dipole-driven interlude of mesomorphism in polyelectrolyte solutions---Long ignored, dipole-dipole interactions give life its shape
Dipoles can upend what we know about how charged macromolecules self-assemble. This finding upends our understanding of how some of life’s basic structures are built.
Integrated multimodal artificial intelligence framework for healthcare applications
We propose Holistic AI in Medicine (HAIM), a unified framework to facilitate the generation and testing of AI systems that leverage multimodal inputs, and show its improvement by 6-33%. Its generalizability offers promising pathways for future multimodal predictive systems in healthcare settings.
Pd-Catalyzed Asymmetric Allylic Pyridinylation Reaction under Electrochemical Conditions
By combining electricity and Pd catalysis, the first example of an asymmetric allylic pyrdinylation reaction was reported with 4-CN-pyridne as the pyridine source. The Pd catalyst acts not only as the transition-metal catalyst but also as an electron-transfer catalyst.
