A lingering legacy of leaded gasoline in Southeast Asia
Following the phase-out of leaded gasoline, there is a misconception that Pb is no longer an environmental concern. We find that along with Pb from present sources, use of leaded gasoline left a legacy of Pb in soil which is remobilized to the atmosphere after two decades of its phase-out.
Warming-induced vapor pressure deficit suppression of vegetation growth diminished in northern peatlands
Growing vapor pressure deficit inhibits vegetation growth. Chen et al. reported that this inhibition diminished in northern peatlands, as plant growth was not constrained by water even in the presence of a warming-induced water pressure deficit.
Rainfall is increasing on the edges of the South Asian Monsoon
Pakistan is a typical arid region where enhanced rainfall is more likely to cause floods. New research shows that the Middle East warming is increasing Pakistan's exposure to such disasters.
