Coprophagy prevention alters microbiome, metabolism, neurochemistry and cognitive behavior in a small mammal
Our study demonstrates the impact of coprophagy on the gut microbiota, and downstream effects on cognitive performance in a wild rodent. Further, we demonstrated that microbial metabolites, such as acetate, are at least partially responsible for the changes induced by coprophagy prevention.
