Exploring donor difference in neonatal fecal microbiota transplantation
Using a controlled preterm piglet model, we found rectal fecal microbiota transplantation manifested clinically and microbiologically in a donor-dependent manner. Metagenomic analysis revealed strain-level phylogenetic separation of the engrafted lactobacilli strains according to the donors.
light-triggered, large-area, programmable micro-assembly using a photosensitve polymer
A simple wafer-level micro-assembly technique based on light-triggered change in both surface topography and interfacial adhesion of a soft photo-sensitive polymer is developed, which allows the assembly of diverse materials and functional devices, with the printing size up to 4-inch.
Bis-Schiff base linkage makes gold nanoclusters brighter
We develop an efficient strategy to increase the photoluminescence quantum yield of water-soluble gold clusters at the single-cluster level via formation of bis-Schiff base linkages, and its mechanism is deeply investigated.
Nickel-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of oximes
The asymmetric hydrogenation of oximes to chiral hydroxylamines is a long-standing problem due to the labile N-O bond and inert C=N bond. It has now been enabled by a chiral nickel catalyst with excellent results in which the weak interactions between catalyst and substrate play crucial roles.
Central shutdown and surrounding activation of aftershocks from megathrust earthquake stress transfer
Seismic hazard assessments are generally based on longterm earthquake rates. But megathrusts and other large shocks cause the hazard to depart abruptly from its average behavior, and so capturing this will improve forecasts, as well as providing a new way to hunt for prehistoric megathrusts.
