Vitamin C: abrupt termination may increase mortality of sepsis patients
The recent LOVIT trial of vitamin C for sepsis patients found that mortality was increased in patients randomized to the vitamin C group. In a re-analysis we show that mortality was increased only after the 4-day vitamin C administration was terminated, but not during the vitamin C administration.
Genomic analysis of hypoxia inducible factor alpha in ray-finned fishes reveals missing Ohnologs and evidence of widespread positive selection
Fishes are increasingly challenged by low dissolved oxygen in nature and their survival relies, in part, upon their molecular responses. This study sheds new light on the evolution and diversity of the hypoxia inducible factor, the master regulator of oxygen-dependent gene expression, in fishes.
Autonomous perching on a branch by an ornithopter
This work presents results of autonomous controlled flight and perching of a large flapping-wing robot (1.5m wingspan) on a branch. It summarizes an important milestone in GRIFFIN European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant of the last author of the paper, at the GRVC Robotics Lab., Uni. Sevilla.
